Bilona Ghee Price: Comparing 1 kg, 1 Litre and 500 mL Packs

Two sizes of ghee jars beside a traditional churner for a bilona ghee buying guide

To compare bilona ghee prices fairly, compare the same quantity in the same unit, then check the milk source, production method and final checkout cost. A 1 kg pack and a 1 litre pack are not automatically equivalent.

When you search for “bilona ghee price 1kg” or “A2 ghee 500ml”, the results can mix weights, volumes, pack sizes and offers. A few simple calculations make those listings easier to understand without treating the highest or lowest price as proof of quality.

First, separate weight from volume

Kilograms and grams describe mass. Litres and millilitres describe volume. One litre is exactly 1,000 mL, and one kilogram is exactly 1,000 g, but one litre of ghee does not automatically weigh one kilogram.

If one seller quotes by weight and another by volume, look for a declared net weight or ask for the corresponding quantity. Avoid using the jar's external size or a universal online density estimate as a substitute for the declared contents.

Calculate a comparable unit price

Pack declaration Calculation
500 mL Pack price ÷ 500 × 100 = price per 100 mL
1 litre Pack price ÷ 1,000 × 100 = price per 100 mL
500 g Pack price ÷ 500 × 100 = price per 100 g
1 kg Pack price ÷ 1,000 × 100 = price per 100 g

Here is a hypothetical example, not a live Faimly Farm offer: a 500 mL jar priced at ₹900 costs ₹180 per 100 mL. A 1 litre jar priced at ₹1,700 costs ₹170 per 100 mL. The larger pack has the lower unit price in this example, but only makes sense if you will use it and can store it properly.

Understand what “bilona” is describing

In the traditional curd-churned route, milk becomes curd, the curd is churned to collect butter, and the butter is clarified into ghee. This sequence connects the product to a household dairy practice. It is also why questions about the process are more useful than relying only on a rustic jar design.

Ask the maker whether they churn whole curd or cultured cream, whether the milk is cow, buffalo or a blend, and what records support their sourcing description. A word on the front label cannot answer every production question.

Why prices can differ

  • Milk and fat recovery: the cost and fat content of the starting milk affect the amount of finished ghee.
  • Processing: culturing, churning, heating and filtering require equipment, labour and energy.
  • Packaging and fulfilment: jar size, protective packing and delivery charges affect the final price.
  • Batch practices: traceability and testing can add costs, but should be supported by information rather than assumed from price.

None of these factors makes price alone a purity test. Colour, graininess and aroma also cannot prove that a product is free from adulteration.

A five-question buying checklist

  1. What exact net quantity and unit am I paying for?
  2. Which milk source and production route are stated?
  3. Are ingredients, batch details and manufacturer information clear?
  4. What evidence is available for any testing or certification claims?
  5. What is the final cost after eligible discounts and delivery?

Common questions

Is the biggest jar always the best value?

No. Calculate the unit price and consider how quickly your household uses ghee. A smaller jar can suit occasional cooking.

Is a premium-priced ghee automatically pure?

No. Price is a commercial decision. Evaluate traceability and credible evidence separately.
